Exchange & Mart introduces PNC checks
Used car thieves are being shown the door at ExchangeandMart.co.uk thanks to its investment in security measures designed to stop stolen cars from being advertised.
All vehicles advertised on Exchange and Mart are now checked against the Police National Computer to see if they are registered as being stolen, ensuring visiting used car buyers can shop with confidence.
Exchange and Mart is one of the founding members of the Vehicle Safe Trading Advisory Group (VSTAG), an industry forum created to combat vehicle related fraud. In addition, it works closely with the Metropolitan Police to raise awareness of the risks used car buyers may face.
“We are continually updating the site to try and provide the safest online trading environment to consumers,” explains Debra Healy, Digital Director of Exchange and Mart. “All vehicles are checked before they appear on the website and if they appear on the Police stolen register then they cannot be advertised on ExchangeandMart.co.uk. It’s as simple as that.”
Whilst vehicle crime has dropped by more by 6% in 2008-09 over the previous year, nearly 1.4 million vehicle-related thefts were still recorded in 2008-09, accounting for 14% of all recorded crime in England and Wales. This confirms that the chances of buying a stolen car are still very strong for used car buyers and anyone who falls foul of such criminal activity is likely to lose the car and the money they paid for it.
“By taking a zero tolerance approach to the sale of stolen vehicles Exchange and Mart continues to set the standard for secure online trading. We are closing the door to used car criminals, helping consumers enjoy a safe buying experience,” concludes Debra Healy.
